Maggie is a former Senior Producer for the Peabody and MACEI award-winning storytelling juggernaut, The Moth. Over the nine years she worked there she identified, sourced and recruited hundreds of new storytellers for the Moth's critically acclaimed Mainstage series, as well as hosts for the Moth's StorySLAM series in 27 cities. She networked, cold-called and built relationships with individuals and partner organizations to recruit storytellers for themed evenings (e.g. an emergency doctor who had to treat his own mother, an Afghan refugee, a Milwaukee housewife, and various celebrities including Molly Ringwald, Richard Price, Bruce McCulloch and Steve Burns). She served as lead director of over 40 Moth main stages at nationally and internationally renowned venues including Lincoln Center, BAM, and the Sydney Opera House, as well as festivals including The Aspen Ideas Festival and the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering and with partners such as the Gates Foundation. Duties included: creating themes appropriate for city and time of year; selecting storytellers, hosts and musician; developing new stories and rehearsing and refining returning; running final in person rehearsal; insuring final production was at organization standards.
Lead member of screening team. Reviewed 30+ live recorded stories a week to select the strongest candidates for the Peabody Award Winning Moth Radio Hour and podcast; reviewed transcripts for inclusion in the Moth’s two critically acclaimed books. Selected and edited stories for distribution through other platforms, including The Scene and Reader’s Digest.
